Ileen Oshell: global warming is the increase in the earths overall temperature due to the accumulation of green house gases in the earth atm mainly co2 , the concept is the light rays from sun reaches us as long waves which is allowed by co2 blanket but the incident ray reflect as shortwaves which is not allowed by co2 layer so trapping the heat inside the earth .so as co2 increases trapping and temp increases.
Blair Abdi: Most often when you hear of global warming it is referencing human caused global warming from the industrial age CO2 emissions. These are the byproducts of burning fossil fuels, and net changes in sequestered and atmospheric CO2 levels caused by man through land management and agriculture. These man made changes in CO2 are causing atmospheric levels to increase because our emissions are higher than Earths ability to sequester the gas. The concern caused by this rising level of CO2 is the Greenhouse effect. CO2 absorbs IR energy. Carbon dioxide ! is transparent to many of the Suns radiation frequencies yet it is opaque to Earths primary radiation frequencies (IR.) This causes a net warming effect. An important note is that Human caused Global Warming is not the only type of Global warming. There are many factors including the exact tilt of the Earth. The path of the Earth around the Sun, oceanic currents, and many other natural phenomenon all effect the Earths average temperature. However, the current warming has a high likelihood of being primarily cause by man....Show more

Coleman Senn: Geomatic has anwsered the question perfectly in the fact that global warming is a naturally occuring event. Im pleased to see someone making note of the Milancovich cycles as these are often not even considered when attempting to explain recent* climatic variations. The effect that this will have on us, will test our ability to! adapt to our changing environment. Burt Stoecklin: Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. The Earth's climate changes in response to external forcing, including variations in its orbit around the sun (orbital forcing),[7][8][9] volcanic eruptions, and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. The detailed causes of the recent warming remain an active field of research, but the scientific consensus[10][11] identifies elevated levels of greenhouse gases due to human activity as the main influence. This attribution is clearest for the most recent 50 years, for which the most detailed data are available. Some other hypotheses departing from the consensus view have been suggested to explain the observed increase in mean global temperature. One such hypothesis proposes that warming may be the result of variations in solar activity.[12! ][13][14]...Show more
Elinore Schlinker: Global warming and cooling are natural, cyclical phenomenon, caused by many factor such as greenhouse gas accumulation and Milankovitch cycles.Currently, we are observing a warming trend in the overall average temperature of Earth's near surface air. This makes sense as we are exiting an ice age (these are very slow cycles). The warming may continue and if it becomes very warm, society will face some problems.**Beauty, cite your sources.**bobafett316, CO2 does not destroy the ozone, CFCs do....Show more
