Non-comic book readers and your opinion on comic books?

Tomi Vauters: If you want the opinion of non-fans here, this is the wrong section. You would get a more honest reaction from the film buffs. Most anime fans think of themselves as manga fans, therefore comic fans, and constitute the majority of cartoon fans. My point is, we are all comic book fans here.I can tell you that when I was growing up, forty years ago, my contemporaries either got it or they didn't. If they didn't, comics were stupid, a waste of time. This attitude was reinforced by the state of American cartoons. Unless the cartoon in question was a feature length film, it really was a stupid waste of time. Only fans understood that those stupid cartoons didn't truly represent the comics they were often based on. Even a passing glance would show a huge difference (unlike the situation in Japan, where the anime and manga versions are virtually identical), but that glance was never given in light of unwarranted assumptions.The situation has changed drastic! ally since then. TV shows in general are a lot better now, but it's the information age, and there's a lot more to do than sit around and watch TV. People don't make the same assumptions as they used to, and I don't think most folks think comics are stupid. Surely some of them do, though. So my question is this:Why ask the opinions of people who most likely don't have opinions? I mean, isn't the only valid opinion an informed opinion? Unless what you're really asking is what assumptions are being made.You won't find such assumptions here. We know too much.Oh yeah, and I also just read JLA #1. Garrett Detone: I don't read comics, but they're a good source of early imagination and reading for children. they are also a wonderful form of art for adults. I have heard! of the DC relaunch. supposedly they are redoing all the famou! s characters from DC, starting from the beginning. Such as Batman and Supermans' origin.
