Zora Mazzie: This can be anything from the player to the receiver, either a setting not set right on the HD-DVD player, a broken Optical Out on the HD-DVD player (I would doubt it), a broken cable (inside that cable is a thin peice of glass, if that glass breaks, the red optical light beam will break, and not deliver the data), a broken Optical In, or a setting not set right on the receiverBeing that you had a problem with the DVD player as well, the Optical Out on your HD-DVD player should be fineFirst, run the HD-DVD player without the optical cable plugged in, take a needle or something else thin and open up the Optical Out door (this is unless there was a cover th! at originally came with it that you had to remove), you should see a red light, if you do not see a red light, change your Audio Out settings on your HD-DVD player and select Optical Audio Out, when you see the red light, connect the Optical cable back to the HD-DVD player, if you still don't get sound, check your settings on the receiver again, you should get sound after some tinkeringWhen I first got an Optical cable for my receiver, I had some audio problems as well, I had to pair the Optical In to the DVD selection, then had to choose Digital Audio In, after some tinkering, I got it to work, so you may be having a similar problem@ Tomk-That's not exactly true, by default, audio will go through HDMI only, this doesn't mean you can't change the settings, I had my PS3 connected to the TV via HDMI, and had an optical cable going from the PS3 to my receiver, my receiver played the audio just fine, any the video displayed just fineEdit: Don't forget to pick Best Answer even t! hough you got it fixed...Show more
Danica Timperman: The! audio travels to your TV through the HDMI cable when you have that source selected on the TV. Even if you hook up other audio cables, when you select HDMI as your source, the audio only feeds through the HDMI cable, which is supposed to be superior to the optical cable anyhow. HDMI carries both video and audio and is the default connect for high-def television. What do you mean by "Sound system"? Did you get all the speakers and the surround sound amplifier? If so, then none of the audio connects to the television itself. Your question is a little vague....Show more
Donte Hamme: It was a broken Optical cable Thx! Put a new one on and it works. :D
