What was it like in the 1980s?

Sherrill Botting: The local news stations on regular TV were popular. We didn't have Twitter or TMZ.For recreation, we'd go to places to play miniature golf, go-karts and stuff like that. We went to movies and museums, and we went outside a lot. We went to parks and playes baseball and basketball. Stuff like that.

Bryant Chaudhry: Recreation: movies, drive-ins, going to the mall, watching TV.News: mainly the local affiliates of NBC, ABC, and CBS; CNN and C-SPAN were very new.There was no internet, no cell phones, no computers in most of the school classrooms. We played outside a lot more. The neighborhood kids got together and played together: riding bikes, rollerskating and skateboarding, playing Barbies, making up our own games.Food wasn't much different than it is now, although we did have a "New Coke" fiasco. They changed the formula of Coke and it ended up tasting almost exactly like Pepsi, lol. It bombed, and they went back to the old formula.Clothes were horr! ible. Lots of bright colors, pinstripe jeans, huge shoulder pads, and so forth. I went to the mall last year and saw a lot of styles that were popular in the 80's, especially the paint-splashed tops and jeans.Hair was horrible, too, at least for girls. Big hair was the trend, the higher, the better. I was permed for about a decade, lol. Men's hair was pretty hot, though. The feathered look was big for them....Show more
