Emile Midgley: ps i have windows xp on a laptop
Basil Blasingame: Well if you get that message "found new hardware" even if you have not plugged any new device then I suggest you check your computer for any missing driver. A driver is basically the software you install in your computer so that a specific device gets detected and properly works in your system. Example of devices that use drivers -- printer, web cam, scanner, video card, wireless card, etc. To check your system for any missing driver, go to the device manager. To access the device manager:Right click on My computer, then choose properties. The system properties' window should appear, now click the Hardware tab then click on the Device manager button.Inside the device manager, you will see a list of devices. Check if you see any yellow question mark or a red exclamation point. If you got a yellow question mark and says "unknown device" -- then this means you have a device where the driver for it ! had either been uninstalled or not installed at all. Try to determine as to how long have you been seeing that found new hardware message. Had this happened for a few days? weeks? Because you simply need to reinstall the driver for that device. Have you made changes lately on your computer? If you got a red exclamation point on the other hand, this would mean there's a conflict among your devices....Show more
